April Scott, ACC MBA
I am an American expat and an executive coach who specializes in helping professionals and leaders manage work challenges so that they can be more effective in their job and reach the goals they have set for themselves. Another focus area for me is helping non-native English-speaking business professionals at multinational companies improve their English communication skills – while they simultaneously engage with me in traditional coaching for professional development, all so that they can advance more quickly in their careers.
Some typical issues and objectives my clients come to me with include improving workplace relationships, enhancing communication skills, leading teams, coping with change, and developing themselves with new habits, strategies, and tools for dealing with challenging issues and people.
I am an International Coaching Federation (ICF) certified executive and leadership coach who has worked at multinational companies such as Boeing, Mattel, and Toyota. Since coming to Europe, my corporate clients have included Banca Intesa, Hemofarm Pharmaceuticals, and Philip Morris International. I have spent 20 years working in the human resource specialty areas of leadership development, organization development, and change management, and in coaching leaders.
I coach in person, but primarily via Zoom, and have had clients in the U.K., the U.S., Switzerland, Morocco, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Serbia, and more. In addition to formal coach training, I have an MBA from the University of California Los Angeles and an undergraduate degree in communications from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia in the U.S. While living in Los Angeles, I married a Serbian doctor and moved to Serbia in 2017.
My approach:
In my executive/leadership coaching practice, I believe that my clients are “creative, resourceful, and whole.” They are often already successful people looking to become even more effective and to reach more challenging goals. I work with my clients to expand their thinking and uncover limiting beliefs, habits, and approaches that may have served them well in the past, but which could now be holding them back.
For my non-native English-speaking clients wishing to improve their English communication competence, my approach includes practicing delivery for important presentations; review of and practice with common English language workplace idioms; and reading and discussing articles relevant to their professional challenges and goals from publishers such as Harvard Business Review and McKinsey.
For general executive coaching, I typically use the IGROW model in my practice, walking my clients through the stages of identifying the Issue, establishing Goals, assessing current state Reality (or Root Cause), exploring Options for changes in approach or behavior, and then deciding on What’s Next action steps for moving forward. However, every client is different, so I take a highly customized approach to each engagement.
If you are a leader looking to become more effective, I offer a free, short Leadership Effectiveness Assessment at www.aprilscottcoaching.com. This self-assessment will help you identify the areas where your development is most needed and will also provide you with some development ideas.
Here is what some of my clients have said about their experiences in working with me.
Tamara Sparović-Kocić
Director Marketing South East Europe at Philip Morris International
“I enjoy working with April because she is an aspirational, passionate and extremely dedicated coach. She really stands out from others due to her focus, deep understanding, and ability to build empathy with her clients. She has a strong coaching background, enriched also with her real-life experience within corporate environments. She takes a no-nonsense approach, but is warm and easy to talk to. She is authentic, non-judgmental, a great listener, and is respectful of my experiences and feelings. April is good at keeping us focused during sessions but at the same time she’s flexible and able to adapt to my needs. I work with April for my professional life but the insights I discover in my sessions with her impact my personal life as well. I believe I have developed important targeted skills and competencies since I began working with April, and she helped greatly, supporting and following-up with me in order to achieve that.”
Patrick Dupont-Liot
Managing Director Debt Capital Markets, Corporates Standard Chartered Bank
“My coaching sessions with April were incredibly helpful and insightful. April is an incredible listener and in a relatively short time frame she succeeded in helping me understand (and articulate) the challenges in my professional environment, and more importantly, the drivers of those dynamics. April was not afraid to challenge my mindset and encouraged me to question my own assumptions and views. Her probing questions allowed me to accurately frame my managerial cross-border challenges, and with her guidance, put in place a plan / mindset to address and overcome them in a manner that would allow me to succeed and progress in my career. April has since become a trusted mentor and coach and is someone I would highly recommend to anyone looking for help to address a particular challenge or simply look for help on how to more effectively navigate the complex world of management.”
Danielle Ralic
CEO/CTO and Co-Founder of Ancora.ai AG; Founder of Intrepid Analytics
“I had no experience with an Executive Coach prior to April and was unsure of what to expect. My experience with April as an Executive Coach was incredibly positive and I have turned from being an Executive Coach skeptic to an advocate. April was very proficient at staying structured throughout our discussions to help me think through challenges I chose to discuss, and helped me work towards answers and decisions I was struggling to make on my own. I looked forward to our conversations and found immense value from every session. I would highly recommend her services to anyone in a management position.”
Adolfo Tunon
CEO Apayh Ltd and former Managing Director at Citi, HSBC, and RBS
“Professional careers are like F1 racings. It requires a good strategy well before the start, an excellent execution throughout the circuit, deal with the issues as and when they arise, but most importantly, know when to do the pit stops, recharge fuel, change the tires, and continue with the race. April has been a critical support at one of these pit stops. It helped me to look back, review what went well and not so well, and fundamentally to capitalise on the lessons learned and reactivate the levers of my strengths. April is a good listener and, along with her vast experience, will challenge you with the right question at the right time. I’m delighted to have been able to work with April, and I know, I’ll have a person to consult from now on on this long professional career race.”
